Những người đàn ông đã quyết định cho cá. Một lần nữa ...

With some gusto a few hunters had a meet/drinking, the main results of said drink/meeting were as follows.

  • We all agreed we were there (after some time)
  • We also agreed that some hunters were not - and that was our own fault (being hunters not superb on organisation)
  • Those not present were probably hunting anyway and filling their freezers with bounty
  • We (from now on including those not physically present) decided to stop
  • using bullet
  • points
  • just for
  • the sake of

  • it
  • We also decided to fish at sea again but try for bigger fish farther off shore (gulp)

We also spent some time debating The Times articles about Crayfish, which coincidentally this weekend (The Times that is) has a superb photo set including a golden bottom from the Bond films! (Noted for you M.McA)

Golden bottoms aside, we progressed to serious matters...

We (the Male folk of Rocklands) need to choose. between..

  • obligatory bullet points for no reason
  • fishing from Whitby (North Yorkshire - where according to Radio 5 there are Nuclear tests)
  • fishing from the South coast (DG has family living locally there to provide a bed before an early start)
  • fishing in France (again somewhere to sleep free of charge)
  • fishing on our local coast

A few dates were mentioned, any offer of a reminder of any dates mentioned would help me report back... as I can only remember a hazey end of summer time date time thingy.

That's that.... but this is the Whitby boat.. http://www.thechieftain.co.uk/ note: (I can admit to visiting Whitby A&E having fallen off a cliff and onto the beach in 1994 - thus would recommend Whitby and it's hospitals - thus should we encounter problems 120 miles off shore - I can verify superb hospital on return)

This might be last years ride http://www.norfolkseafishing.co.uk/

But this http://www.norfolkfishingtrips.co.uk/ was mentioned as a local alternative...

Though there is some info here on Fishing in Normandy http://normandy.angloinfo.com/af/222/normandy-fishing-and-angling-fresh-and-sea-water.html

Over and out for now...

I vote for the Chieftan.
Let's agree some dates and check avaliability.
I'm free for most of the Summer now.

Agreed, thinking proper fisher type people will be booking up so - we need to get in - before it's all taken.

Should we perhaps meet this week with a view to arrange a final date to

a) aim for the event
b) get fishing at sea finalised
c) have a pint (or few)

Also Jigga now is on board, what is Steves email to get him on board?

Jul Aug is the best time of the year. They said the most popular jaunt is 36 hours (This leaves at 6.00am, and starts fishing at dawn off Gt Yarmouth!!), but on a good day, a 12 hour trip at 25 miles out could yield 8-9 fish per person, up to typ 10-15lb. Mostly Cod, but also Mackerel. Obviously no guarantees.

Additional costs £5.00 per day rod and reel hire, and we need to purchase lures at £2 - £5 depending on type. Cooked breakfast is an additional £4.50 if required. If there's a large catch, there may be a small cost for filleting.

12 hour trips available at the moment are Sun Jul19th, and Sat Aug 18th

Thanks Duncan, Should a pint be in order with diaries? Friday perhaps?

Friday's fine with me - have to check with Sas tho.

Just been speaking to a guy from EDF (who was working on our supply) who runs a fishing boat off Lowestoft at the weekends. Mostly 3-4 miles, but can possibly go more, £25.00 per head, 10-12 hours.

Apparently close to shore, Sept Nov is better for cod. They catch other fish such as Bass, and various flatfish. We can chat when we meet.

Cheers,

D

Can't do Friday. Possibly tomorrow (Thurs) after a meeting in St. Peters Close with the war commitee.

Had a long chat with a real Norfolk Skipper today about his boat in Yarmouth. Sounds like a similar deal to the EDF chap. This boat is an ex 50' lifeboat in Easyjet orange of course, which I liked the sound off.

Also spoke to some guy in Southwold but not any likelyhood of getting into lots of cod in Aug or Sept unless you go halfway to Holland and I haven't found anyone in this area yet who is prepared to do that.
